One of the smartest and best put-together magazines around, Wired, has launched its UK edition. Conde Nast hopes this will be a success, although the whole technology/internet area is seen as much more of a niche market in the UK than in the US where Wired is considered a mainstream men’s magazine. The US version of Wired is brilliant, and available in Dubai, where the local competition is non-existent.
On first glance, the UK version is as good as the US title – brilliant concepts, design and images. They go out of their way to state they are “not a technology magazine” which is strange, given they are – and the biggest danger for them will be turning into some hybrid between PC Monthly, Mens’ Health and Loaded. The brilliantly named ‘infoporn’ sees visualisers turn articles into graphics; something only Good magazine do as well.
