Our July cover is retro-themed by the excellent Craig Redman. Although originally, we were going to go with something that tied into an article on Brasilia, we felt the simplicity of this was striking, and adding extra elements would just water down the effect. So far the feedback has been great. If you want to check out the issue, go here.

Open Skies Africa
In Design, Magazines on April 28, 2011 at 6:19 amThe Africa issue of Open Skies will be on the plane in a few days. Really excited by the cover, executed brilliantly by Simon Page. If you are flying Emirates in May look out for it.

In Design, Online, Published articles on October 9, 2010 at 6:07 amAnyone interested in magazine design should check out these books from Pie. In other news, URBN has one big announcement to make in the coming days – a partnership with one of the world’s largest mobile application developers. We will also be at GITEX – once we know the stand and hall number, we will let you know, so feel free to drop by and say hello. Also here is an op-ed piece I wrote for the National on Shah Ahmad Massoud. I also bought the very nice HTC Legend, a reckless purchase, but worth every penny.
From Russia with Love
In Design, Magazines on September 3, 2010 at 2:31 pmBeautiful magazine covers are not easy to pull off – most editors seem content to cram as many cover lines as possible onto the cover in the hope of catching the reader’s eye. Yet in a world of excessive cover text and graphics, this often has the opposite effect with the magazine getting lost among the crowd. One magazine which manages to pull off its covers rather brilliantly is Spanish Esquire, which has been featured on this blog before. I also came across its sister title, Russian Esquire, which has a similar aesthetic when it comes to covers. Stunning.
